In this modern age, more Australian folks involve themselves in various home improvement projects. You might ask why.
For starters, we cannot deny the China effect that has bothered the nations, resulting in cheaper materials/tools. Another thing would be the growing number of DIY stores in cities and even small towns. Then we have the enormous amount of free DIY information in magazines and of course, the internet. So with all the large volume of waste and rubbish created by these do-it-yourselfers, you can bet that the skip/bin industry is doing a roaring trade because of them.
But a skip hire, is it the only answer to our waste disposal problems?
Skip hire across US and Europe is slowly losing its flair because consumers are looking at a more promising option to manage their domestic wastes. These are the skip bags (proly bags) which are made out of polypropylene material. What’s so special about these plastic bags?
Well, they can handle all waste types you have at home- bricks and concrete, tires, mattresses, roof tiles, just about anything. It’s because it has a 1.5-tonne load capacity that is as tough, sometimes, tougher than a metal skip, yet incredibly compact. They are initially flat-packed and approximately A3 size, yet even your old fridge or bathtub will in it because it expands up to 2.5 cubic metres.
Oh, and there’s more. Lapordata (the International Materials Testing Institute) testing in Australia confirmed that these skip bags passed a 9-tonne stress test. Strength and durability, ingenuity and convenience, all in one package.
These heavy duty polypropylene skip bags are such great hits for consumers that US hardware retailer LOWES and UK company Hippowaste are experiencing huge sales figures in the past 6.12 months. Other brands generally support up to 4 tonnes of load but the problem is that crane trucks can only lift up to 1.5 tonnes of rubbish so they can never fully maximize their capacity.
- Better value for money. Skip hire companies rental charges differ for each location. In central Sydney area, a 7-day hire of a 2 cubic metre mini skip would cost you $200AUD. A skip bag is only $40AUD. Just add another $130 for the collection charge.
- Convenience. It is such a hassle to wait for the delivery of the metal skips especially when you have a long to-do list for the day. What’s worse is when the delivery area is too far from your house and you still need to pick it up. Skip bags, on the other hand, can be purchased online or in leading hardware stores near you just whenever you need them.
- Manageability. With an approximate size of 50cm x 50cm x 5cm, you can store it anywhere at home or in your car.
- No time pressure. Skip hire companies get more money if you keep their metal skips inside your yard for a longer period of time. With skip bags, no need to worry about rushing your DIY project and additional rental fees.
- No hidden/extra charges. It doesn’t matter whatever kind of rubbish you put in the skip bag. This is different with metal skips. They charge extra if you have different waste types in it.
- Private access. Since you can put your skip bags inside your property, neighbors will think twice before crossing the boundaries. You can keep your yard as clean as it is.
- Environment-friendly. Several skip bags can be collected by the same truck before delivery to the waste collection centre. This way, carbon footprint is minimized.
- Portability. It’s so manageable, you can place it anywhere your property. Crane trucks can even lift them from behind your fence or in your driveway.
So go ahead. Enjoy your DIY home improvement projects and let the skip bags take care of everything else.
